Privacy
Upperband is a local-first Mac app. This page explains what the app and website use and why.
Information Upperband uses
To show and synchronize captions, Upperband reads local Apple Podcasts playback metadata and cached transcripts available on your Mac. This can include the episode title, playback position, transcript timing, and podcast artwork or identifiers.
Speech recognition
Upperband may use Apple’s on-device speech recognition to align a transcript with current playback or to produce temporary captions. The availability and behavior of those system services are controlled by macOS and may vary by language, device, and Apple’s software.
Payments
Purchases are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects the payment, billing, tax, and contact information needed to complete the purchase, issue receipts, calculate applicable taxes, prevent fraud, and process refunds. Upperband does not receive or store your complete payment-card details. Stripe processes this information under its Privacy Policy.
License activation
After purchase, Upperband stores the purchaser email address, Stripe checkout and payment identifiers, license status, and activation timestamps to issue and administer the license. The app sends a randomly generated installation identifier and a user-facing Mac label when you activate or validate a license. The installation identifier is irreversibly transformed before storage; Upperband does not collect your Mac serial number.
License records are retained while the license is active and as needed for refunds, fraud prevention, accounting, and legal obligations.
Accounts, advertising, and tracking
Upperband itself does not operate an advertising tracker. This website uses no cookies, analytics, or remote JavaScript; selecting the purchase button takes you to Stripe’s hosted checkout.
Questions
For privacy questions about a purchase, reply to your Stripe receipt and include the receipt or invoice number.
